The 4realz Interview

Earlier today, I sent out an interview request to four real estate technology executives I admire.  The companies they run are at all different stages of development;  from companies with large revenues and relatively stable products to a new start-up just breaking into the industry.   And not only did all of them get back to me saying there were up for an interview, one of them already emailed me his answers!

The genesis of this project, which I’m calling The 4realz Interview, is that I really enjoyed (and learned a bunch!) from the interviews I did over with many of the most prominent real estate bloggers. Over the past two years I asked the same 10 questions to dozens of people which, I think, provided an interesting time-capsule into both how the various bloggers approached the art as well as the state-of-the-art at that time.

However, this time around I’m obviously looking to do something different. This time I decided to reach out to people (mostly outside the RE.net) who are developing and building the products we discuss all the time in order to get their take on the state of the industry.

The first interviewee to respond provided answers that were interesting, informative and beyond my expectations.  If the other participants provide nearly as interesting material, then I can promise that this will be a hugely rewarding experience.
I really am excited to hit publish on the interview… but, at the expense of teasing people two days in a row, I’m going to wait until next week before I hit publish so that I can give the other interviewees some time to catch up.    But after that, I expect things to really heat up as I continue to reach out to other promient players in our industry.

This is going to be fun!

  1. Oh yeah? Well I know someone who has a crush on you but I swore I wouldn’t say who it was.

  3. Well this should be interesting…

  4. Will they reveal themselves tomorrow on Valentines Day! Love is in the air!

Looking forward to your post on the interviews.

  5. Looking forward to some great reading.

It would be even more interesting if you’re also able to find people representing the commercial property industry.

  6. Magnus: the commercial side is so foreign to me at the moment that I’m going to start with a pretty specific niche: online real estate search companies in the US. However, my hope is to break out of that mold eventually. 🙂

  7. No worries! 😉

I envy you guys over there who are able to start up a web service and be super focused and still have a market large enough to make business sense.

In Sweden (with 9 million inhabitants) one has to offer a product that attracts (for example) both brokers and owners in the same offer.

    Keep up the great work!

  8. It’s not nice to tease 🙂

Can’t wait to hear the responses. Very cool idea.

  9. I re-read the old interviews. Told you you’d see lawsuits 🙂

  10. Looking forward to the interviews and insight. BTW, not only do I know who has a crush on you, I have comments to that effect on video. In fact, I have enough video and photo footage to finance my next Inman trip via blackmail.

  11. Talk about great linkbait!
